This 3-hour live interactive lab provides advanced clinical training in the refinement of experiential and somatic psychotherapy micro-skills through the framework of Deliberate Practice (DP). Grounded in empirical literature demonstrating that traditional passive learning (e.g., standard didactics) yields limited skill transfer to real-world clinical performance, this course utilizes systematic, repetitive behavioral rehearsal paired with targeted instructor feedback. Psychologists learn to isolate and master high-difficulty micro-interventions—such as tracking subtle autonomic shifts, interrupting defensive intellectualization in real time, and maintaining relational attunement. By practicing at the threshold of their individual baseline abilities, participants establish procedural automaticity and enhance clinical effectiveness.

The program is structured as a live, highly interactive behavioral simulation laboratory. Rather than relying on standard lectures, the session centers on small-group dyadic role-plays using standardized clinical prompts designed to evoke procedural challenge. Participants engage in successive iterations of specific micro-skills (e.g., somatic tracking, deepening affect, and navigating therapeutic ruptures) while receiving immediate, continuous feedback from the instructor. Clinicians continuously evaluate their performance, make real-time adjustments, and repeat micro-interventions to achieve competency before moving to higher-complexity clinical scenarios.

Target Audience: Licensed Psychologists, Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs), Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs), Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs), and health service professionals in mental health.

Instructional Level: Intermediate to Advanced (Prerequisite: Master’s or Doctoral degree in a mental health field and active clinical licensure/practice).

Learning Objectives:

  • Execute specific somatic tracking micro-skills fluidly within simulated high-stimulus clinical scenarios.

  • Apply behavioral feedback loops to rapidly correct common clinical errors during experiential processing.

  • Isolate and practice discrete relational interventions designed to de-escalate acute autonomic dysregulation.

  • Construct a personalized, ongoing deliberate practice routine to systematically track and elevate clinical skill acquisition over time.

Instructor Bio & Credentials:  Dr. Tori Olds is a licensed psychologist with over two decades of specialized focus in depth therapy, trauma resolution, memory reconsolidation, and experiential techniques.

Her clinical specialization centers on bridging neurobiological mechanisms with real-time, bottom-up experiential interventions. Dr. Olds’ curriculum translates complex brain science into actionable micro-skills designed to deepen clinical effectiveness, enhance therapeutic alliance, and facilitate transformative emotional processing in psychotherapy.
